A Trousdale County man has pleaded guilty to two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder and received a sentence of life in the state penitentiary. On Monday, October 16, 2023, Todd Freeman pleaded guilty before Judge Brody Kane to the 2021 killing of Katheryn Darnell and Bob Darnell and the attempted murder of Ginny Hall. According to the facts of the plea, Freeman resided in the residence with the victims and during the course of an argument Freeman shot both Katheryn and Bob Darnell. Freeman then pursued Ginny Hall as she attempted to leave the home and stabbed her in the driveway of the residence. Freeman fled the scene and was apprehended later that day in Jackson County. Freeman’s plea was based upon mental health and other evidence in the case and will result in a sentence where Freeman will not be eligible for parole during his lifetime.
